MONSTRANCE from the Seda, Telsiai diocese. Phot by A. Luksenas

EXHIBITION "CHRISTIANITY IN LITHUANIAN ART"
(28 December, 1999 - 31 December, 2003)

MONSTRANCE
Telsiai Diocese
Seda the Assumption Church, Mazeikiai region
Originally at Seda St John Nepomuk Church

The 1920 inventory of Samogitia Diocese says that the little church (of St John Nepomuk) possesses nothing exceptionally valuable. This means that this monstrance was considered only a functional liturgical object. However, it is one of the very few liturgical objects that survived from this church. Besides it has historical value associated with the inscription at the top of the monstrance (gloria) saying : Benedycht y Magdalena Adamowiczowie. Generall Adyitantowi Blly. Pol: W:Z: Litt. Ro 1786” and the coats of arms of the Filed Army General Adjutant General’s family. The bottom of it also has the inscription with name of the master and the date - 17 C. Stapler 88.
