- Kikos
Lanitis - Yannis Mihas. Two Aspects of the
Abstract" is the title of the art exhibition that
opens for one month in Vilnius, Lithuania on March 27.
The exhibition, whuch takes place in the context of the
events organized on the occasion of the Greek presidency
in the EU, was also presented in Riga, Latvia.
The exhibition is being organized by the Gallery
of the City of Athens in cooperation with the Greek
Embassy in Stocholm and the support of the Hellenic
Ministry of Culture (Directorate of Educational Affairs)
and the Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus.
Artists Kikos Lanitis from Cyprus and Yannis Mihas from
Greece are two painters with a long, creative course and
an exclusively personal style, that have both
contributed greatly to modern art and are very
well-known in their countries, as well as overseas.
The work of Kikos Lanitis, an important Cypriot artist
of the 70s generation, reveals an endless curiosity on
Art's expressive functions. His thirty years in the
world of Art is characterized mainly by experimentations
in the use of materials and his research for new methods
and techniques. He is an artist who is extremely
interested in the virtues and "poetry" of
color.
The artistic course and geometrical research of Yannis
Mihas start with paintings that are deeply influenced by
constructivism. His works of the first period consist of
series of continuous shapes, standing out with
additional color and depicting relevant contradictions
and horizontal or vertical arrangements of
parallelograms and circles, based on harmonious lines.
The exhibition in Riga is being presented in Bastejs
Gallery, one of the most significant of the Latvian
capital, which belongs to the country's state
University.
Before Vilnius, the same exhibition was presented in
Riga, Latvia, from February 17 to March 17.
