THE EXHIBITION "CREATIVE TAUNO KANGRO"

Lithuanian Art Museum, Radvila Palace
5th October, 2004 – 15th October, 2004
Sculture of Tauno KangroTauno Kangro was born in 1966, Tallinn. In 1976 he joined the art studio of Kalju Reitel. In 1986-1993 he studied sculpture at the Estonian Art Academy. Since 1992 he is a free artist. Tauno Kangro has had more than 20 solo exhibitions in Estonia, Germany, Latvia, France and Russia. In 2003 the exhibition of his bronze sculptures and pastels took place in Vilnius. Since 1987 the artist has been participating in group exhibitions in Estonia, Latvia, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Netherlands and Belgium.

The art of Tauno Kangro oscillates between reality and the world of dreams. His mythological sculptures comprise primeval spells and freeing sparkle. His nudes as if yearn for fairness and eternal youth. His animal sculptures are filled with permanent peace of forests and wisdom of nature. Tauno Kangro‘s pastels represent a blazing and dazzling world.
Kangro’s art is a phenomenon that does not belong to our time. He uses materials such as rock and bronze in order to give his ideas an everlasting shape, to resist the evanescent nature of human body.
The gigantic sculptures of Kangro have become the symbols of many places in Estonia. His works could be found in town squares and private collections in Germany, Denmark, France, Sweden and Finland.
Tauno Kangro is like an archaic hero who carries on pristine powers. He shapes the land with his sculptures, and even the sceptical critics marvel at his works.
The artist’s greatest dream is to erect a 14 meters high statue of Kalev’s son at the gulf of Tallinn. This idea is not yet realised, but there is no doubt, because of Kangro’s persistent character, that this dream will definitely become reality.
